Apple has attracted a lot of attention relatively recently due to the implementation of a system to detect child abuse. In practice, it works quite simply. The device will scan photos, namely their entries, and compare them with a pre-prepared database. To make matters worse, it also checks photos in iMessage. It's all in the spirit of child protection and the comparison takes place on the device, so no data is sent. This time, however, the giant is coming up with something new. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Apple is exploring ways to use a phone's camera to detect autism in children.

iPhone as a doctor

In practice, it could then work almost the same. The camera would probably occasionally scan the child's facial expressions, according to which it would be able to better notice if something is wrong. For example, the slight swaying of a child can be the subject of autism, which people can completely miss at first glance. In this direction, Apple has teamed up with Duke University in Durham, and the entire study should be at the very beginning for now.

But the whole thing can be looked at in two ways. For the first time, it looks quite good and it is clear that something similar would definitely have great potential. In any case, it also has its dark side, which is related to the mentioned system for detecting child abuse. Apple growers react rather negatively to this news. The truth is that autism should mainly be informed by a doctor and is definitely not a task that should be performed by a mobile phone. At the same time, there are concerns about how the function could theoretically be misused, regardless of whether it is primarily intended to help.

Possible risks

It is even more surprising that Apple comes up with something similar. This Californian giant has been relying on the privacy of its users for many years. In any case, this is not evidenced by his latest steps, which at first glance seem to be first-rate and, for some, even dangerous. If something similar were to actually arrive on iPhones, it is clear that all scanning and comparison would have to take place within the device, without any data being sent to external servers. But will this be enough for apple growers?

The arrival of the feature is in the stars

However, as we mentioned above, the whole project is still in its infancy and it is possible that Apple will decide completely differently in the final. The Wall Street Journal continues to draw attention to another point of interest. According to him, something similar would never actually be accessible to ordinary users, which would avoid the Cupertino company from significant criticism. Even so, it is worth mentioning that Apple also invested in research related to the heart, and subsequently we saw similar functions in the Apple Watch. To make matters worse, the giant also teamed up with the American biotechnology company Biogen, with which it wants to shed light on how the iPhone and Apple Watch could be used to detect symptoms of depression. However, how it all turns out in the final is in the stars for now.
