At the beginning of 2023, we saw the introduction of a pair of new Macs. Mac mini and 14″/16″ MacBook Pro specifically applied for the floor. In both cases, it was primarily a performance update, as the computers were equipped with newer chipsets from the Apple Silicon family. At the same time, however, this opened a rather interesting discussion regarding the iMac all-in-one computer. Since 2021, when it came with the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon and a brand new design, it hasn't seen a sequel.

However, now a very interesting news has flown through the Internet. Apple has made significant progress in the development of the successor. The upcoming model should come in the same body as the 24″ iMac (2021), but it will also have a more powerful M3 chipset. This information came from Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg reporter who is considered one of the most respected sources in the apple growing community. But the truth is that this is not quite what the apple growers themselves stand for. Apple is completely forgetting about a more powerful model.

A more powerful iMac in sight

So, as we mentioned above, Apple completely forgets about a more powerful model. So if you're interested in an all-in-one computer from Apple, but need more power for work, then you're out of luck. Your only choice remains the aforementioned 24″ iMac (2021) with the M1 chip. According to current information, this offer will only be extended to the model with the M3 chip. But we can't wait for anything more. This is a rather strange move on Apple's part that may not make a whole lot of sense. Especially if we take into account that the Mac mini also saw the deployment of a professional chipset. This year's introduced model can be equipped with the M1 Pro chipset, thanks to which you can get a computer with professional performance at a relatively affordable price.

There is also extensive debate among Apple fans about what this "better" iMac should actually look like and what it should offer. However, the discussions are more or less led by pleas for the introduction of a larger model with a 27" display diagonal, in which Apple could deploy the same chipsets as in the case of the 14" and 16" MacBook Pro. In the end, we would have an iMac with M1 Pro and M1 Max at our disposal. The Cupertino giant would thus have much better coverage and would be able to satisfy fans of all-in-one computers who would like to purchase not only a powerful device, but above all a well-designed device. Some fans even mention that such a device should take the form of a Studio Display monitor.

Question marks still hang over the future of the professional or larger iMac. But Apple offered them years ago. In particular, iMacs with 21,5″ and 27″ displays were available, while in 2017 the powerful iMac Pro even applied for the floor. However, due to low sales, its sale was discontinued in 2021. It is the deployment of Apple Silicon that could have a key impact on the entire device, which could enjoy not only its performance, but also overall efficiency and low energy consumption. Whether we will finally see them in the foreseeable future is unclear for now. Apple growers have no choice but to wait patiently.
