Five months after leaving long-time head of PR, vice president for global communications Katie Cotton, Apple did not have a clear leader at the head of this division. Only now has the company announced that Steve Dowling, another longtime Apple employee, will lead the PR and media department.

Many faces were discussed in connection with Cotton's successor, and CEO Tim Cook was supposed to look especially for possible candidates outside the walls of his own company. There was speculation that Jay Carney, who used to work in the White House, could lead PR at Apple.

In the end, however, Tim Cook reached out to his own ranks and appointed Steve Dowling as head of PR, but only temporarily. According to the information Re / code will be Apple continues to search for the ideal candidate, but it is possible that Dowling, who has been with Apple for 11 years and previously served as the company's senior director of public relations, will stay on.

In addition to Steve Dowling, a hot candidate for the vacant post was also Nat Kerrisová, also a long-time Apple employee who managed product PR for over ten years. Even under Katie Cotton, she was responsible for the launch of several key products and, like Dowling, seems to have taken a liking to the leadership position. However, Apple refused to comment on the matter, only confirming Dowling's appointment.

Tim Cook's plan was for Apple to open up more after Cotton's departure and provide a friendlier and more accessible attitude to the public and journalists. Apparently, in his eyes, Steve Dowling appears to be the most ideal adept for promoting these changes.
