Apple has just permanently reduced the price of its HomePod smart speaker. In the United States, it now sells for $299, which is $50 less than when it was launched. The discount will be applied worldwide, but not everywhere, but it will be a discount proportional to that from the American Apple online shop. According to some reports, the discount is a result of savings in speaker manufacturing.

Apple introduced its HomePod smart speaker in 2017, and it gradually went on sale at the beginning of the following year. It was supposed to become a competitor to devices such as Amazon's Echo or Google's Home, but it was often criticized for its partial shortcomings.

HomePod is equipped with seven high-frequency tweeters, each with its own amplifier and a six-digit microphone array for remote activation of Siri and spatial perception functions. The speaker also supports AirPlay 2 technology.

Inside is the A8 processor from Apple, which was found in, for example, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and which takes care of the correct operation of Siri, as well as its voice activation. HomePod handles music playback from Apple Music, users can use it to get weather information, convert units, get information about nearby traffic, set a timer or send text messages.

News that Apple should reduce the price of its HomePod first appeared in February this year.
