The Apple Pay service has been operating in the Czech Republic for more than two years. At the beginning, only a handful of banks and financial institutions, but over time, the support of the service has grown to a full extent. This is also for the enormous success of users who can use it with iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch and Mac computers. If you still don't trust the service, this text will convince you of its security and privacy protection.

Security

Apple Pay protects transactions using security features built into your device's hardware and software. Before using Apple Pay, you must set up a passcode and possibly Face ID or Touch ID on your device. You can use a simple code or set a more complex code for even more security. Without the code, no one can get into your device, and therefore not even make payments through Apple Pay.

When you add a credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the information you enter on the device is encrypted and sent to Apple's servers. If you use your camera to enter your card information, that information is never saved to your device or your photo library. Apple decrypts the data, determines your card's payment network and re-encrypts it with a key that only your payment network can unlock.

Credit, debit or prepaid card numbers added to Apple Pay are not stored or accessed by Apple. Apple Pay stores only part of the full card number, part of the device account number and the description of the card. To make it easier for you to add and manage cards on other devices, they are associated with your Apple ID. In addition, iCloud protects your Wallet data (such as tickets or transaction information) by encrypting it during transmission over the Internet and storing it on Apple's servers in an encrypted format.

Privacy

Information about your card issuer, payment network, and providers authorized by your card issuer to activate Apple Pay may be provided to Apple to determine eligibility, set up for Apple Pay, and prevent fraud. If you are specifically interested, the following data may be collected:

  • credit, debit or subscription card number
  • holder name, billing address associated with your Apple ID or iTunes or AppStore account
  • general information about the activity of your Apple ID and iTunes and AppStore accounts (for example, whether you have a long history of iTunes transactions)
  • information about your device and, in the case of Apple Watch, information about the paired iOS device (for example, device identifier, phone number, or device name and model)
  • your location at the time you added the card (if you have location services turned on)
  • history of adding payment cards to an account or device
  • aggregate statistics related to the payment card information you have added or attempted to add to Apple Pay

Apple complies with its privacy policy at all times when collecting and using information. If you are interested in taking a look at them, you can find them at special pages dedicated to it.
