On Monday, exactly half a year passed since Apple Pay entered the Czech Republic. In six months, seven banking houses (Česká spořitelna, Komerční banka, AirBank, Moneta, mBank, J&T Banka and UniCredit) and four non-banking services (Twisto, Edenred, Revolut and Monese) managed to offer the service. Czechs thus have a number of options to start paying with an iPhone or Apple Watch, although support from some large domestic banks is still awaited. In the Jablíčkára editorial office, however, we were interested in the current balance of Apple Pay and how the service is doing in terms of numbers after six months. We asked essentially all banking and non-banking institutions in our country for current data.

As can be seen from the latest statistics, Czechs have become quite fond of paying via Apple Pay. Over 320 Czechs are currently paying using their iPhone and Apple Watch, and since February 19, when the service was launched on our market, they have managed to make over 17 million transactions in a total volume of around 8 billion crowns. Česká spořitelna reports the largest number of clients using Apple Pay (83 thousand), followed by AirBank (68 thousand) and Komerční banka (67 thousand).

Most often, users use Apple Pay to pay in grocery stores, restaurants, and gas stations. Banks also agree on the average amount of one transaction, which is around 500 crowns. For example, Komerční banka states that their client pays with an iPhone an average of 14 times a month, but as the statistics show, the number will be significantly higher for other banks. It is also interesting to note that users who pay by phone generally pay more often than those who use a debit/credit card for contactless payments.

We have provided detailed statistics relating to individual banks clearly below. The additional information that the banks gave us when raising our question is then marked in italics.
