While in the Czech Republic we have been able to pay with an iPhone or Apple Watch for four months now, Slovaks are eagerly awaiting the launch of Apple Pay. However, everything indicates that the wait is over. According to the latest information, Apple's payment service is scheduled to arrive in Slovakia next Wednesday, June 26.

A Slovak magazine provided the information Živé.sk, which refers to its sources from the banking environment. In recent weeks, banking institutions have subjected the service to internal testing and are now fully ready for launch, both technically and from the point of view of marketing promotion. During the course of yesterday, Apple itself was supposed to confirm next Wednesday as the launch date to the banks. Originally, the service was supposed to start on Tuesday, June 25, but in the end, the company postponed the start by one day.

Support from banks

As part of the first wave, a total of 4 banking houses and one non-banking institution are to offer Apple Pay. On the very first day, at least clients of Slovenská spořitelna, Tatra banka, mBank and J&T Banka will be able to pay with their iPhone. The last two mentioned were also among the first to offer the service here. In the following days, Poštovní banka and banka 365 are also expected to add support. The non-banking service Edenred, which also offers Apple Pay in the Czech Republic, should join as soon as Wednesday.

In last weeks announced Internet bank N26 also participated in the introduction of Apple Pay in Slovakia. Support confirmed among others, the alternative bank Monese. In the foreseeable future, Slovaks can also count on the deployment of fintech startup Revolut, which already supports Apple's payment service in the Czech Republic since the end of last month.

It can generally be expected that, just as in the Czech Republic, Apple Pay will also be available in Slovakia in the morning hours. The official start should be set for 6:00 a.m., when the information embargo ends, but the actual activation of the service may be available a few hours earlier. Thanks to the extensive network of contactless terminals, Slovaks will be able to use Apple Pay at more than 45 locations on the very first day.
