The Apple Pay payment method is one of the most popular gadgets among most apple sellers. Apple came up with it already in 2014 and it can be used to pay via iPhone or Apple Watch. When making purchases in the store, there is no longer any need to pull out a payment card - simply approach the terminal with your phone or watch and verify the payment. Everything works quickly, safely and intuitively. After all, this is exactly why users immediately liked this function very much. But Czech apple growers had to wait until 2019, when it was officially launched in our country as well.

Practically the same service can also be found on the opposite side of the barricade, i.e. for phones with the Android operating system. This is where Google Pay is located, which works practically the same and requires an NFC chip to function - just like it does on iPhones. Although both methods are essentially the same, Apple Pay is still more popular in the eyes of many users for some reason. Why might someone feel that way?

Same core, one minor difference

As we mentioned above, both services are more or less the same. As part of both, you can upload your payment card to the device, which is then used when paying (via an NFC chip). Whether you pay via Apple Pay or Google Pay, the entire transaction is secured by tokenization for maximum privacy, which hides personal information and anonymizes the entire process. This way, the merchant cannot associate you with the given transaction. So both Apple and Google build on this core. In the same way, both variants can be used for paying on the Internet and in e-shops. In the case of the Apple service, this also applies to Mac computers with Touch ID.

If we were to compare only this technical information, we would get a clear draw and simply not determine the winner. But the main role is played by an absolute trifle. Although most people wave their hands over it, it can be an important factor for some, which is why they don't have to use the given payment method at all in the end.

Google Pay

The main benefit of the Apple Pay method is that it is practically pre-built on every compatible device, which means that it can be used almost immediately. Key in this regard is the native Wallet application, which is used to store payment cards, tickets, airline tickets, loyalty cards and more. So everything is already in the given iPhone without us having to solve anything. When making payments via Apple Pay on the Internet, the system also uses personal information from the contact. Also worth mentioning is the Apple Pay Cash function, with which Apple users can send money directly via iMessage messages, for example. However, there is a minor catch - unfortunately, it is not available in our region.

With Google Pay, it's a little different. On competing phones, it is first necessary to download the official application from the Play Store Google Pay, and only then can it be used in the same way as the aforementioned Wallet. Unfortunately, from time to time there are also unpleasant problems in the form of the disappearance of saved cards, which can be quite frustrating.
