During yesterday, information appeared on foreign websites that Gerard Williams III had left Apple. This news stirred up passionate discussions because this is a person who at Apple was at the head of a long-term effort that brought us the last few generations of Ax mobile processors.

Gerard Williams III joined Apple many years ago. He already participated in the development of the processor for the old iPhone GS, and year by year his position grew. He has held a leading position in the processor architecture department of mobile chips roughly since Apple came up with the A7 processor, i.e. the iPhone 5S. At the time, it was the first 64-bit processor for iPhones and generally the first 64-bit mobile processor for a similar use. At the time, Apple's new chip was said to be a year ahead of competitors in the form of Qualcomm and Samsung.

Since then, Apple's processor capabilities have grown. Williams himself is the author of several important patents that have helped Apple to the steadfast position it is in with its processors today. However, the super powerful Apple A12X Bionic processor is the last one that Williams was involved in.

It is not yet clear where Williams will go from Apple. The logical conclusion would be Intel, but it has not yet been verified. However, it is already clear that Apple is leaving a person who has done a lot for the company and has played a significant role in where the California company is currently in the field of mobile processors in the last few years. Another negative aspect is that this is not the first high-ranking person in the field of design and development of mobile processors to leave Apple in a short period of time. Not so long ago, Manu Gulati, who led the overall SoC integration team, also left the company.
