In January of this year, there were reports that Apple works on wireless headphones, which combined with speculation about iPhone 7 without 3,5mm jack it made pretty good sense.

At the time, the information came from 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman, whose sources have previously proven to be highly reliable. Now, however, perhaps even clearer indications of Apple's intentions in the field of audio electronics have appeared. Still unknown company Entertainment in Flight LLC namely, it filed an application to register the trademark "AirPods".

It's supposed, that Entertainment in Flight is a so-called shell company, which is a company founded, for example, to conceal the activities of a better-known company. Apple has already used such "shell companies" for applications to register trademarks for "iPad", "CarPlay" and, for example, "iWatch".

Additionally, the submitted application is signed by Jonathan Brown. A lawyer named Jonathan Brown has the position of "Senior Standards Counsel" at Apple, so he most likely deals with trademarks and patents. Such a coincidence seems unlikely. But the website MacRumors recognized that the name Jonathan Brown is quite widespread and that of Entertainment in Flight with that of Apple he unified by comparing the signatures.

On the other hand, neither of these reports may guarantee that a product with the specs and the name "AirPods" will ever be officially unveiled by Apple. For example, Apple introduced the already mentioned "iWatch", but with the name Apple Watch.
