Apple paid twenty-five million dollars for the copyright to a documentary about the singer Billie Eilish. The documentary will run on Apple TV+ and will follow the singer's life after the release of her debut album. Seventeen-year-old Billie Eilish was awarded Artist of the Year by Apple this week as part of the announcement of the first annual Apple Music Awards.

According to the Hollywood Reporter magazine, RJ Cutler will direct the film and the documentary will be produced in collaboration with Interscope Records. In the film, viewers will see not only the singer herself, but her entire family, and they will not be deprived of behind-the-scenes footage from the singer's public performances. The documentary should premiere in 2020.

In the past, Apple has released some music documentaries on its music streaming platform Apple Music, such as The 1989 World Tour (Live) with Taylor Swift or the Songwriter film about Ed Sheeran. But the documentary about Billie Eilish will be broadcast on the Apple TV+ service. The move is likely due to Apple's decision to release all copyrighted content exclusively on Apple TV+ and not split movies between two different platforms.

A few months ago, Apple removed the Shows and Movies category from the browsing section of the Music app. Video content that was previously viewable within Apple Music can now be viewed by users in the TV app. For students, Apple has introduced a special package in which they can use both Apple Music and Apple TV+ for $4,99 a month, and is reportedly also considering introducing a package combining both services with the news platform Apple News+.
