Apple has always placed the security and privacy of its users high on the list of values. It means all the more to him the current unprecedented battle with the US Department of Justice wanting to crack iPhone security. Apparently, this is also why Apple hired a new security manager.

Agency Reuters Citing its sources, it reported that George Stathakopoulos, the former vice president of information security at Amazon and before that the general manager of product security at Microsoft, had joined Apple. At Apple, Stathakopoulos is to be vice president of corporate information security.

Although the Californian company refused to officially confirm the new reinforcement, however, according to Reuters Stathakopoulos joined Apple a week ago. This is apparently a direct response to the closely watched dispute between Apple and the US government. Both sides will appear in court on Tuesday.

Reporting to the CFO, Stathakopoulos will be responsible for protecting computers used for product design and software development, as well as customer data. Conversely, hardware and software chiefs will continue to address the security and protection of Apple products.
