At the end of last month, an update called Device Support Update began to be offered to users of the macOS operating system. With this, Apple managed to raise a lot of questions, as the description of the update was that it aims to ensure that iOS/iPadOS devices connected to a Mac are properly updated and restored. That in itself doesn't sound bad, and it makes sense. On the other hand, this is an update that has never been here before and we are seeing it for the very first time. So it's possible that Apple is slightly changing the rules for its operating systems when it comes to recovery and updates.

Device-Software-Update
At first, no one had any idea what the update was for

This update for macOS is highly likely to be related to new Apple products, which also fits from the data point of view. In mid-September, the new iPad mini, iPad and iPhone 13 (Pro) were unveiled. At the end of the month, an update for macOS came with the aforementioned Device Support Update. So it is clear that the products are closely related to the update and are probably meant to ensure that Apple computers can update or restore them. But it was different in the past. When you connected, for example, your new iOS device via a cable, you received a message from the MobileDeviceUpdater app informing you of the need to update to a newer macOS. The tools needed for the two mentioned activities were packaged in new versions.

New iPhone 13 Pro:

Apparently, Apple has decided to make a significant change, when it no longer wants to use the aforementioned MobileDeviceUpdater tool so much and rely on the fact that Apple users are using the latest versions of their operating systems. Let's pour some pure wine. In short, many users simply ignore the updates and often do them only retroactively, with a relatively large interval. With the arrival of the Device Support Update, the frequency of displaying the MobileDeviceUpdater dialog box when connecting a device should be significantly reduced. Adam Engst from the Tidbits portal also tested this change himself, who researched the unexpected update for macOS for almost two weeks. In conclusion, he came to the conclusion that it is indeed a set of tools that will allow Apple computers to update and restore new Apple products.
