In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

Qualcomm's revenue surged thanks to the iPhone 12

Today, the Californian company Qualcomm boasted about its earnings for the fourth quarter of this year. They specifically increased to an incredible 8,3 billion dollars, i.e. about 188 billion crowns. This is an incredible jump, as the year-on-year increase is 73 percent (compared to the fourth quarter of 2019). Apple with its new generation iPhone 12, which uses 5G chips from Qualcomm in all its models, should be responsible for the increased income.

The CEO of Qualcomm himself, Steve Mollenkopf, in the earnings report for the mentioned quarter, added that a large part of it is the iPhone, but we should wait for more important numbers until the next quarter. In addition, he added that the well-deserved fruits of years of development and investment are beginning to return to them. In any case, the income is not only made up of orders from Apple, but also from other mobile phone manufacturers and Huawei. In fact, it paid 1,8 billion dollars in a one-time payment during this period. Even if we did not count this amount, Qualcomm would still have recorded a 35% year-on-year increase.

Apple and Qualcomm agreed on cooperation only last year, when a huge lawsuit between these giants, which dealt with the misuse of patents, ended. According to verified information, the apple company plans to use chips from Qualcomm until 2023. But in the meantime, they are also working on their own solution in Cupertino. In 2019, Apple bought a significant portion of the modem division from Intel for $1 billion, acquiring a number of know-how, processes and patents. So it is possible that we will see a transition to an "apple" solution in the future.

Apple expects extreme demand for MacBooks with Apple Silicon

Since June of this year, when Apple boasted to us on the occasion of the WWDC 2020 developer conference about the transition from Intel to Apple's own Silicon solution, many Apple fans are impatiently waiting to see what Apple will show us. According to the latest news from Asian Nikkei should the Californian giant bet heavily on this news. By February 2021, 2,5 million pieces of Apple laptops should be produced, in which the ARM processor from Apple's workshop will be used. The initial production orders are said to be equal to 20% of all MacBooks sold in 2019, which were about 12,6 million.

The production of the chips themselves should be taken care of by an important partner TSMC, which until now has provided the production of processors for iPhones and iPads, and the 5nm production process should be used for their production. In addition, the unveiling of the first Mac with Apple Silicon should be just around the corner. Next week we have another Keynote, from which everyone expects an Apple computer with its own chip. We will of course inform you about all the news.

Holes in iPhone 12 Pro deliveries will be patched by older models

Introduced last month, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are enjoying huge popularity, which is causing problems even for Apple. The Californian giant did not expect such a strong demand and now does not have time to produce new phones. The Pro model is particularly popular, and you'll have to wait 3-4 weeks for it when ordered directly from Apple.

Because of the current global pandemic, there are problems in the supply chain when partners are unable to deliver certain components. It is especially critical with chips for the LiDAR sensor and for energy management, which are really in short supply. Apple is trying to respond quickly to this hole by redistributing orders. Specifically, this means that instead of selected components for the iPad, parts for the iPhone 12 Pro will be produced, which was confirmed by two well-informed sources. This change will affect approximately 2 million pieces of apple tablets, which will not reach the market next year.

Apple intends to fill the half-empty offer with older models. He allegedly contacted his suppliers to prepare twenty million units of the iPhone 11, SE and XR, which should already be ready for the December shopping season. In this regard, we must also add that all the older mentioned pieces, which will be produced from October this year, will be delivered without an adapter and wired EarPods.
