At the end of last year, renowned analyst Neil Cybart of Above Avalon, that there are a billion active iPhones in the world. And that's a huge number. However, at this year's Google I/O, we learned how many active Android devices there are. There are 3 times more of them, i.e. three billion. But this number does not consist only of smartphones and tablets.

Yes, we are deliberately presenting an iPhone vs Android comparison. The iPhone uses iOS, which was previously also available on iPads, but these Apple tablets now run on iPadOS. And even if one billion is just an estimate, it may not be far from the truth. But since Apple does not publish the exact numbers, we have no choice but to trust them. However, on May 18, Google I/O took place, i.e. the event of Google, where it presented the new Android 12. And with that, the information that there are already 3 billion active Android devices around the world was also said.

You can find Android in almost everything

Although Google's Android is primarily associated with phones, it's actually an incredibly versatile system. It is also present in tablets, smart TVs, smart watches, game consoles, cars, and even refrigerators and other products. With such a wide variety of different devices, growth is a matter of course. The last known number Google boasted was 2,5 billion. Moreover, it was relatively recently, in 2019. In 2017, it was two billion. What does it mean? It's just that Android is growing by leaps and bounds. Additionally, these numbers don't count devices that don't have access to Google Play, which are some devices in China and, of course, newer Huawei phones.

Android 12:

It would be interesting to know what number we would get if we added up all active Apple devices now. Although, again, there would not be an adequate comparison here, since we would also count Mac computers. The latest known number is the 1,4 billion products Tim Cook announced at the beginning of 2020. At the time, a full 900 million of those were just iPhones.
