Apple released an official statement last night that it has acquired Texture. It is a service that deals with subscription services and digital distribution of magazines. The service operates both on the iOS platform and on others. The agreement is currently pending finalization. Apple did not disclose the amount for which the Texture service was purchased.

The news was revealed by Eddy Cue at the SXSW media festival, which takes place in Austin, Texas. According to information from the press release, the company is happy to have such a popular and widespread platform under its wing, which offers hundreds of the most popular and most read magazines in the world. Apple's goal is to preserve quality journalism and enable journalists and editors to continue their work in the best possible conditions.

The Texture service has been operating since 2010 and is based on a monthly subscription ($10), upon payment of which users have access to all the magazines on the platform. The service supports up to five connected devices to one account, as well as allowing individual magazines to be downloaded for offline reading. The service's portfolio includes many famous titles, such as People, Vogue, Rolling Stone, National Geographic, GQ, Sports Illustrated, Wired, Maxim, Men's Health, GQ, Bloomberg, ESPN and others.

In addition to current issues, the service also offers a very rich archive in which thousands of issues from earlier issues can be searched. For Apple, this acquisition is another source of income, as it will profit from the subscription that the service offers. The service will thus be placed alongside Apple Music and other subscription services that have been making more and more money for Apple in recent years. It offers an application for those interested free seven-day trial, it should be noted here that the application is not in the Czech version of the App Store. After the acquisition is complete, the app will be integrated into Apple News.
