Apple has entered the world of augmented reality with its latest acquisition. He acquired the German company Metaio under his wing, whose technology could soon appear, for example, in iOS devices.

Metaio creates tools for the use of augmented reality in various industries, and yesterday it first mysteriously announced that it was ceasing its services. But in the end they were documents discovered proving that all Metaio shares have passed under Apple. The one later for TechCrunch vše confirmed: "Apple buys small technology companies from time to time, and we generally don't discuss our intentions and plans."

The best use of augmented reality is demonstrated in the attached video, where tools from Metaio are used by the Italian car manufacturer Ferrari. Metaio started as one of the side projects in 2003 at the German car manufacturer Volkswagen, and gradually its technology began to be used by various companies, for example for virtual shopping systems.

Of course, it is not yet clear what Apple's plans are with the new acquisition, however 9to5Mac in this week brought news that they are working in Cupertino to integrate augmented reality into their Maps. So Metaio could prove to be a key acquisition for this project.
