Apple continues its efforts to constantly improve its map and navigation system and has acquired the company Coherent Navigation, which deals with navigation technologies and a very accurate GPS system, under its wing.

"Apple buys small technology companies from time to time, and we generally don't discuss our intentions or plans," confirmed pros The New York Times information on which for the first time pointed out MacRumors, an Apple spokesperson.

Coherent Navigation has had several employees move to Apple recently, so the question is whether the acquisition is just about talent or specific technology. What is certain, however, is that Coherent Navigation dealt with the so-called High Integrity GPS (iGPS), which combines the signal from several satellites and thus offers more accurate data. It can focus not only with an accuracy of meters like most current solutions, but even centimeters.

Apple is understandably not commenting on its plans for the new acquisition, but Coherent Navigation joins a number of map or navigation companies such as Locationary, Embark, Hop Stop, WifiSLAM a BroadMap, which Apple has already bought in the past.
