Magazine Fortune once again announced the annual ranking of the most respected companies in the world. Apple has managed to take first place for the past five years, and this year is no different – the Californian company has once again managed to place itself on top.

At the same time, the ranking itself is nothing out of the ordinary. It is compiled on the basis of long questionnaires filled out by corporate directors, board members and renowned analysts. The questionnaire consists of nine main attributes: Innovation, employee discipline, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, management quality, creditworthiness, long-term investment, product/service quality and international competitiveness. In all nine attributes, Apple received the highest score.

Magazine Fortune commented on Apple's positioning as follows:

“Apple has fallen on hard times recently due to a big drop in its stock and the widely publicized failure of its mapping services. However, it remains a financial juggernaut, reporting a net profit of US$13 billion for the most recent quarter, making it the world's top-grossing company during that period. The company has a fanatical customer base and continues to refuse to compete on price, making the iconic iPhone and iPad still seen as prestige devices. The competition may be tough, but it remains behind: In the fourth quarter of 2012, the iPhone 5 was the best-selling phone in the world, followed by the iPhone 4S.”

Behind Apple in the ranking was Google, third place was occupied by Amazon, and the other two places were shared by Coca-Cola and Starbucks.
