Apple has emerged as America's largest user of solar energy, according to newly released data. This is according to the research behind the Solar Energy Industries Association. Of all American companies, Apple has both the largest production capacity and the highest consumption of solar energy.

In recent years, large American companies have been increasingly using solar energy to power their headquarters. Whether it is production or ordinary office buildings. The leader in this direction is Apple, which uses energy from purely renewable sources, most of which comes from solar energy, at all its American headquarters.

Since 2018, Apple has led the ranking of companies with regard to the maximum production capacity of electricity. Close behind are other giants such as Amazon, Walmart, Target or Switch.

Apple reportedly has a production capacity of up to 400 MW across its facilities in the United States. Solar energy, or renewable resources in general are advantageous for large companies in the long run, as their use helps reduce operating costs, even if the initial investment is not low. Just look at the roof of Apple Park, which is practically covered with solar panels. Apple produces so much electricity per year that it could charge more than 60 billion smartphones.
You can see where Apple's solar centers are located on the map above. Apple produces the most electricity from solar radiation in California, followed by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and North Carolina.

Last year, Apple boasted of reaching a major milestone when the company succeeded in powering all its headquarters around the world with the help of renewable energy. The company tries to take care of the environment, even if some of its actions do not indicate this very well (for example, the irreparability of some devices, or the non-recyclability of others). For example, the solar system on the roof of Apple Park has a production capacity of 17 MW, which is joined by biogas plants with a production capacity of 4 MW. By operating from renewable sources, Apple annually "saves" more than 2,1 million cubic meters of CO2 that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere.
