Before Christmas, a case related to new tablets began to be resolved in connection with Apple. As it turned out in recent weeks, a larger number of users received a brand new iPad Pro, which was slightly bent out of the box. Everything started to be resolved and after a few days Apple also came up with a semi-official statement. The director of the hardware development section commented on the situation.
One of the server's readers asked how it is with bent iPad Pros in reality Macrumors. He originally addressed his email directly to Tim Cook, but he did not respond. Instead, his email was answered by Dan Riccio, Apple's vice president of hardware development.
In the answer, which you can read in its entirety here, it basically just says that everything is perfectly fine. According to Riccio, the new iPad Pros meet and exceed Apple's manufacturing and product standards, and the situation with some bent models is "normal". The manufacturing process and function of the device is said to allow for a deviation of 400 microns, i.e. 0,4 mm. To such an extent, the chassis of the new iPad Pro can be bent without causing any problem.
Examples of bent iPad Pros:
The bent iPads are said to be due to a manufacturing process during which "slight" deformation can occur as internal components are placed and attached to the chassis. The explanation is probably very simple and has to do with how easily Apple's latest tablets break. The aluminum frame of the chassis is too fragile in several exposed places and the chassis itself is not strong enough. The absence of any internal reinforcements makes the whole situation even worse. The new iPad Pros are thus very thin and light, but at the same time significantly more fragile than the previous generation.
Reports of users unwrapping bent iPad Pros began to emerge shortly after sales began. Since then, more and more cases have been reported. Since it is not as popular a product as the iPhone - which had similar problems a few years ago - the whole problem is not so scandalized yet. We will see how the situation will continue to develop, whether Apple will resort to any modifications in the near future, or whether the chassis will be redesigned in the next generation.
How would you react if your new iPad Pro arrived in less than perfect condition?
So iPads are curved in previous models too, but probably no one was so bored and didn't have time to research it... iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 10.5″ and iPad 6th generation - they were all bent into a U and there was never a problem with the warranty ;) It it won't be so hot again..
so I have an air and an air 2, but they are not bent and have never been. Practically half a millimeter of deflection, which a higher-ranking Apple manager admitted as being OK, is not just a disaster, but a catastrophe. As they begin to say to themselves "this is good" is the beginning of the downward slide of the overall quality. Next year it will be OK with a millimeter, the displays will also not be very healthy, but that will also be the norm…..
From what I saw on the web, in some cases the bending is definitely more than 0.4mm. Apple should, worthy of its reputation, recognize it as a complaint without bullshit, even if it is sometimes harakiri lately: faulty magic keyboard in iStyl in Prague no problem, replaced in 4 days, new phone from Apple store worked 95% in Dublin maximum battery capacity, a month and a half long negotiation...
BENDING THE DISPLAY IS NOT A PROBLEM AS WELL AS BENDING THE CHARACTER OF A PERSON
I have had my iPad 2018 for three days. He is not bent. The problem with the strength of the chassis was the reason why I did not go to the new Proček. Otherwise, I find the iPad to be an amazing device. A lot of people will replace it with a couch. I ordered a Zagg backlit keyboard to go with it, and it will also replace the rest for me in most cases. But I want to carry it without worry in my backpack and I don't want to worry about it bending. Proček wants to wait until Apple catches up with the design. It's the same as the iPhone 6 and its bendgate. With 6s, everything was fine.
I'm on my 4th iPad - the last one is last year's pro, but neither one has ever bent. The tragedy is not the almost negligible bending, but the statement that it's Apple's noise fuk and that the idiots are the customers who naively expect 100% quality. Dan Ricci, or whatever his name is, would have been fired immediately by Jobs for this statement. Or at least I hope so.
