In recent years, Apple has begun to focus more on the services segment. These are generally more and more popular and can offer a number of benefits to their subscribers, while making a regular profit for their providers. A great example can be a music or video streaming service. Although Netflix and Spotify reign supreme in this field, Apple also offers its own solution in the form of Apple Music and  TV+. It is the latter platform that is interesting in that only original content can be found on it, in which the Cupertino giant invests up to billions of dollars. But why doesn't he visit the video game industry?

Video games are extremely popular these days and can generate quite a lot of profits. For example, Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite, or Riot Games, Microsoft and many others may know about it. In this regard, someone may argue that Apple offers its gaming platform - Apple Arcade. But it is necessary to distinguish the so-called AAA titles from the mobile ones offered by the apple company. Although they can entertain and provide hours of entertainment, we simply cannot compare them to leading games. So why doesn't Apple start investing in great games? It definitely has the means to do so, and it can be said with certainty that it would please a considerable percentage of users.

Problem in devices

The main problem comes right away in the available devices. Apple simply does not offer computers optimized for gaming, which can appear to be a major stumbling block. In this direction, however, the latest Macs with an Apple Silicon chip bring about a certain change, thanks to which the apple computers received a significantly higher performance and the left rear can handle a number of tasks. For example, even last year's redesigned MacBook Pro, in whose bowels the M1 Pro or M1 Max can beat, offers unquestionable performance in the field of gaming. So we would have some equipment here. The problem, however, is that they are again intended for something completely different - professional work - which is reflected in their price. Therefore, players prefer to buy a device that is twice as cheap.

As all gamers know, the main problem with gaming on Macs is poor optimization. The vast majority of games are intended for PC (Windows) and game consoles, while the macOS system is rather in the background. There is nothing to be surprised about. Not long ago, we had Macy here, whose performance was not worth talking about. And that's exactly why it's also logical that it wouldn't make sense for Apple to invest in games if its own fans/users couldn't enjoy them either.

Will we ever see a change?

We already hinted above that, theoretically, the change could come after the transition to Apple Silicon chips. In terms of CPU and GPU performance, these pieces significantly exceed all expectations and can easily cope with any activity you can ask of them. For this reason, it is quite possibly the best time for Apple to make a significant investment in the video game industry. If future Macs continue to improve at the current rate, it's quite possible that these work machines will become suitable candidates for gaming as well. On the other hand, these machines can have the best performance, but if the approach of the development studios does not change, then we can forget about gaming on Macs. It simply won't work without optimization for macOS.
