In line with its ecological efforts, Apple's management decided to dedicate one million euros (27 million crowns) to research related to the use of energy produced by sea waves. The contribution is donated through the Irish Renewable Energy Authority (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland).

Lisa Jackson, Apple's vice president of environmental and social initiatives, had the following to say about the generous donation:

We are excited about the potential of ocean energy to one day serve as a clean energy source for our data center we are building in Athenry, County Galway, Ireland. We are deeply committed to powering all of our data centers with 100% renewable energy, and we believe that investing in innovative projects will facilitate this goal.”

Sea waves are one of the many sustainable energy sources that Apple has invested money into in an effort to become an environmentally friendly company. Solar energy is key for Apple, but to a large extent the company also uses biogas and wind, water and geothermal energy to power its data centers.

Apple's goal is simple, and that is to ensure that all of its devices can run exclusively on energy from renewable sources. Over time, suppliers with which Tim Cook's company cooperates should also switch to long-term sustainable sources.
