In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

Will we see a HomePod mini this year? Leaker is clear on this

The year before last, we saw the introduction of a smart speaker from the Apple workshop. Of course, this is the well-known Apple HomePod, which offers first-class sound, the Siri voice assistant, great integration with the Apple ecosystem, smart home control and a number of other advantages. Although it is a sophisticated device offering a number of great features, it does not have a large presence in the market and is therefore in the shadow of its competitors.

However, there have been talks about the arrival of the second generation for a long time, and some people believed that we will see its introduction this year. Autumn in the apple world undoubtedly belongs to the new iPhones. They are traditionally presented every year in September. However, there was an exception this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which is causing delays in the supply chain. Because of this, in September we "only" saw the introduction of the redesigned fourth-generation iPad Air, the eighth-generation iPad and the Apple Watch Series 6, along with the cheaper SE model. Yesterday, Apple sent out invitations to its upcoming digital conference, which will take place on Tuesday, October 13.

Of course, the whole world is waiting for the presentation of a new generation of Apple phones, and practically nothing else is being talked about. However, some Apple fans have begun to wonder if the HomePod 12 will not be unveiled alongside the iPhone 2. In favor of this claim is Apple's earlier move, when this year it allowed employees to buy up to ten smart speakers with a fifty percent discount. Apple growers believed that the Californian giant was trying to clear its warehouses even before the release of the mentioned second generation.

A very popular leaker also commented on the whole situation @ L0vetodream, according to which we will not see a successor to the HomePod this year for the time being. But his post ends with something even more interesting. Apparently we should wait for the version mini, which will boast a cheaper price tag. HomePod mini has already been commented on by Mark Gurman from the renowned Bloomberg magazine. According to him, the cheaper version should offer "only" two tweeters compared to the seven that we can find in the previous HomePod from 2018. With the mini version, Apple could secure a better position in the market, because the first ranks are occupied by cheaper models from companies such as Amazon or Google.

Edison Main can be set as the default email client

In June of this year, we saw the developer conference WWDC 2020, which was the first ever to take place completely virtually. During the opening keynote, we got to see the presentation of new operating systems, with iOS 14 getting the main attention of course. We finally got to see its official release last month and we were able to start enjoying all the benefits like the App Library, new widgets, a modified Messages app, enjoy better notifications for incoming calls and the like.

iOS 14 also brings with it the possibility to set a different default browser or e-mail client. But as it turned out after the release of the system, this function worked only temporarily. As soon as the device was restarted, iOS returned to Safari and Mail again. Fortunately, this was fixed in version 14.0.1. If you're a fan of Edison Mail, you can start to rejoice. Thanks to the latest update, you can now also set this app as your default.

The iPhone 5C will soon be heading to the obsolete product list

The Californian giant plans to put the iPhone 5C on the list of obsolete devices soon. On the website of the Californian giant, there is a complete list with obsolete products, which is divided into vintageobsolete. The vintage sub-list contains products that are 5 to 10 years old, and the obsolete sub-list contains products older than ten years. The iPhone 5C was introduced in 2013, and according to an internal document obtained by the foreign magazine MacRumors, it will head to the aforementioned vintage sublist on October 31, 2020.
