In early June, Apple submitted an application, so that its newly formed subsidiary, Apple Energy LLC, can begin selling excess electricity that the company generates at its solar factories. The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has now given the green light to the project.

According to FERC's decision, Apple Energy can sell electricity and other services related to its supply, as the commission recognized that Apple is not really a major player in the field of energy business and thus cannot influence, for example, unfair price increases.

Apple Energy can now sell the excess electricity it generates, for example, at its solar farms in San Francisco (130 megawatts), Arizona (50 megawatts) or Nevada (20 megawatts) to anyone, but rather than the public, it is expected to offer it public institutions.

The iPhone manufacturer is alongside Amazon, Microsoft and Google, which also invest significantly in energy projects, especially in the interest of environmental protection. The trefoil of the aforementioned companies invests, for example, in wind and solar power plants, with which they power their operations and at the same time reduce air pollution thanks to them.

Apple, for example, already runs all its data centers with green energy, and in the future it wants to become completely independent so that it can supply its global operations with its own electricity. It now contains roughly 93 percent. As of Saturday, he also has the right to resell electricity, which will help him invest in further development. Google also acquired the same resale rights in 2010.
