When Apple released yesterday iOS 12.1.1, macOS 10.14.2 a TvOS 12.1.1 for regular users, many have wondered where the promised watchOS 5.1.2 is with the expected support for ECG measurements. However, it will not be necessary to wait long for the new system. As Apple on its website informs, watchOS 5.1.2 will arrive this evening and will bring all the expected news, including ECG support for the Apple Watch Series 4.

As is the tradition of the Californian company, the update should come out at exactly 19:00 our time. It will be available to everyone who has already downloaded and installed yesterday's iOS 12.1.1 on their iPhone. Specifically, you can find the update on the iPhone in the Watch application and here in In general -> Software update.

The biggest new feature of watchOS 5.1.2 will be a new ECG measurement app that will show the user if their heart rhythm is showing signs of arrhythmia. The Apple Watch will thus be able to determine atrial fibrillation or more serious forms of irregular heart rhythm. ECG measurement will be available only on the latest Apple Watch Series 4, which are the only ones with the necessary sensors. To take an ECG, the user will need to place their finger on the crown while wearing the watch on their wrist. The whole process then takes 30 seconds. Unfortunately, the function will not be directly available in the Czech Republic, but it will probably be possible to try it easily after changing the region. (Update: The watch must be from the US market for the ECG measurement app to appear after changing the region)

However, even owners of older Apple Watch models will get an interesting feature. After updating to watchOS 5.1.2, their watch will be able to warn of irregular heart rhythm. the function will be available on all models from Apple Watch Series 1. Likewise, with the update, a new switch for Walkie-Talkie will be added to the control center of the watch, and the Infograph dial will receive seven new complications (application shortcuts).
