According to the latest study from IDC, Macs sold like a treadmill in the first quarter of this year, thanks to which their sales more than doubled year-over-year. The M1 chip from the Apple Silicon family certainly plays its part in this. Still, after several months of waiting, we got an update to Google Maps, which means that Google has finally filled out Privacy Labels in the App Store.

Macs sold like crazy. Sales have doubled

Apple accomplished something extremely important last year. He introduced three Macs that are powered by the new M1 chip directly from the workshop of the Cupertino company. Thanks to this, we received several great benefits in the form of increased performance, lower energy consumption, in the case of laptops, longer endurance per charge, and the like. This also goes hand in hand with the current situation, when companies have moved to home offices and schools to distance learning mode.

This combination required only one thing - people needed and need quality devices for working or studying from home, and Apple introduced amazing solutions at perhaps the best moment. According to the latest IDC data thanks to this, the Californian giant saw a huge increase in Mac sales during the first quarter of this year. Indeed, during this time, compared to the first quarter of 2020, 111,5% more Apple computers were sold, despite the current situation and problems on the supply chain side. Specifically, Apple sold something like 6,7 million Macs, which is an 8% share of the entire PC market globally. If we compare it again with the same period in the previous year, then "only" 3,2 million units were sold.

Other manufacturers such as Lenovo, HP and Dell also experienced an increase in sales, however they did not do as well as Apple. You can see the specific numbers in the image attached above. It may also be interesting to see where the Cupertino company will move its chips from the Apple Silicon family over time, and whether this will eventually attract even more customers under the wings of the Apple ecosystem.

Google Maps got an update after four months

In December 2020, the Cupertino company launched an interesting new product called Privacy Labels. In short, these are labels for applications in the App Store that quickly inform users about whether the given program collects any data, or what kind and how it handles it. Newly added applications must meet this condition from then on, which also applies to updates of existing ones - the labels simply have to be filled out. Google has drawn suspicion in this case, because out of nowhere, it has not updated its tools for a long time.

Gmail even started warning users that they were using an outdated version of the app, even though no update was available. We received the first updates from Google in February of this year, but in the case of Google Maps and Google Photos, for which Privacy Labels were added last, we only received the update in April. From now on, the programs finally meet the conditions of the App Store and we can finally count on regular and more frequent updates.
