In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

People spend significantly more on the App Store

Technologies are constantly moving forward, to which, of course, manufacturers respond with new products. For example, we can cite apple phones. Over the past few years, they have seen amazing changes and various innovations that bring them a number of great possibilities. We can also see the shift in the field of applications themselves. Developers use all the news and potential of these phones, thanks to which they can take care of the creation of better and more useful programs, while they want to be properly rewarded for their work. Spending on the TOP 100 subscription apps (excluding games) across all mobile platforms grew by 34% year-on-year, according to the latest data from analytics firm Sensor Tower. Specifically, to 13 billion dollars from the original 9,7 billion.

Undoubtedly the most profitable was the YouTube application with its Premium mode, which took the first place both globally ($991 million) and also in the United States of America ($562 million). From the graph attached above, we can also read that people spend significantly more on the Apple platform. How are you doing? Do you pay a subscription in any application, or do you buy paid applications?

Intel points out the shortcomings of the M1 chips

Last June, on the occasion of the WWDC 2020 developer conference, the Cupertino company presented one of the most fundamental steps – the so-called Apple Silicon project. Specifically, it is a transition from Intel processors to a proprietary solution in the case of Macs. At first, people were quite skeptical and no one knew what to expect from Apple. It was only known that the new chips would be based on the ARM architecture, in which people rather saw shortcomings (for example, the inability to virtualize Windows, lack of applications, and the like). At the end of 2020, in November, we saw the introduction of the first Macs that were equipped with the M1 chip from the Apple Silicon family. These were MacBook Air, Mac mini and 13″ MacBook Pro.

We have to admit that the performance and energy consumption of this chip took the public's breath away. These latest pieces with the bitten apple logo are literally perfect and can handle any activity in seconds. In addition, Apple solved the lack of applications through the Rosetta 2 program, which can interpret applications intended for computers with an Intel processor, which also works without problems. At first glance, it is also clear to everyone that Apple is several steps ahead of Intel, which probably does not like this fact.

Intel has recently started a campaign in which it points out the shortcomings of the new Macs with the M1 chip. For example, in this week's latest ad, it mentions that you can play Rocket League on PC, but unfortunately not on Mac. This title is not optimized for the mentioned platform. Last week he again pointed to the shortcomings of Apple displays. Specifically, so that the PC offers a so-called tablet mode, i.e. a touch screen and stylus support.

Of course, we must admit that Macs with Apple Silicon have their shortcomings, due to which many users cannot afford to work with such a device. The biggest problem is of course the aforementioned virtualization, which is (for now) not possible on the ARM platform. Some experienced programmers are trying to work on a solution, but the truth is that Apple simply cannot do without Microsoft's help.

The co-founder of Netflix leaned into  TV+

Netflix co-founder and former CEO Marc Randolph recently gave an interview to Yahoo Finance where he talked about streaming services. We were talking about Disney+ and  TV+, which we could call the biggest competition of the current king. Randolph took a swipe at Apple for offering unimaginable free memberships, which while the service boasts a solid number of subscribers, it's important to note that the vast majority of them haven't actually paid a cent. In addition, the Cupertino company has already extended the already annual subscription twice, which is why it has kept some viewers since its introduction in 2019.

"If Apple devoted a quarter of the time from giving away subscriptions to creating quality content, it might finally get in the game,” expressed quite clearly the former head of Netflix. He then added that Apple is not fully committed to its service and is still not in the "game" with both feet. In contrast, the aforementioned Disney+ platform literally spits out great content. Today, the company also announced that it has surpassed 95 million subscribers.
