Recently, there has been more and more talk about an upcoming feature that will prevent applications from tracking us across websites and other programs. Of course, this innovation has many opponents who constantly fight against it. We continued to come across various advertisements on the Internet in which Intel points out the shortcomings of Apple computers. An actor who years ago was literally an important face of Apple has now joined exactly these spots.

Former Mac promoter turns his back on Apple: Now he's singling out Intel

At the beginning of this millennium, advertising spots called "I'm a Mac,” in which two actors portrayed a Mac (Justin Long) and a classic PC (John Hodgman). In each spot, the various shortcomings of computers were pointed out, which, on the other hand, are almost unknown to the product from Cupertino. The idea of this advertisement was even partially revived by Apple, when after the introduction of the first Macs, it launched an advertisement in the same spirit, but only featuring the representative of PC Hodgman.

Only recently, rival Intel started a brand new advertising campaign in which various actors point out the shortcomings of Macs with M1 and, on the contrary, understandably promote models equipped with an Intel processor. In the new series falling under this campaign, the aforementioned actor Justin Long, i.e. the representative of Mac at the time, who today promotes the other side, started appearing. The mentioned series is called "Justin Gets Real” and at the beginning of each spot he introduces himself as Justin, a real person who makes real comparisons between Mac and PC. The latest ad specifically points to the flexibility of Windows laptops, or compares the Lenovo Yoga 9i to the MacBook Pro. In another spot, Long meets a gamer using an MSI Gaming Stealth 15M with an Intel Core i7 processor and asks him about using a Mac. Subsequently, he himself admits that no one plays on Macs.

Also interesting is the video pointing out the absence of touchscreens in Macs, the inability to connect more than 1 external display to models with the M1 chip, and a number of other shortcomings that Intel devices playfully shove into your pocket. But this is not the first time that Long has turned his back on Apple. Already in 2017, he appeared in a series of advertising spots for Huawei promoting the Mate 9 smartphone.

The French regulator is preparing to review an upcoming anti-user tracking feature in iOS

Already at the very presentation of the iOS 14 operating system, Apple showed us a very interesting new feature that should once again support the security and privacy of apple users. This is because each application will have to directly ask the user whether they agree to tracking across applications and websites, thanks to which they can subsequently receive relevant, personalized advertising. While Apple users have welcomed this news, advertising companies, led by Facebook, are fiercely fighting it because it could cut into their revenues. This feature should arrive on our iPhones and iPads together with iOS 14.5. In addition, Apple will now have to face an antitrust investigation in France, whether this news in any way violates the rules of competition.

A group of advertising companies and publishers filed a complaint with the relevant French authority last year, for a simple reason. This new function could have a huge share and lower income of these companies. Earlier today, the French regulator rejected their request to block the upcoming feature, saying that the feature does not appear to be abusive. Nevertheless, they are going to shine a light on the steps of the apple company. Specifically, they will investigate whether Apple applies the same rules to itself.
