Apple showed the world its financial results for the first quarter of this year. The giant was able to increase its sales and profit in a year-on-year comparison, when iPhone and Apple services did best in sales. Despite this success, however, it is necessary to take into account the impending decline. This will be caused by a global shortage of chips, due to which a drop in sales of iPads and Macs is expected.

Apple announced financial results for the past quarter

Yesterday, Apple boasted its financial results for the second fiscal quarter of 2021, i.e. for the previous quarter. Before we look at the numbers themselves, we have to mention that the Cupertino company really did well and even broke some of its records. Specifically, the giant came up with sales of an incredible 89,6 billion dollars, of which the net profit was 23,6 billion dollars. This is an amazing year-on-year increase. Last year, the company boasted sales of 58,3 billion dollars and a profit of 11,2 billion dollars.

Of course, the iPhone was the driving force, and we can assume that the 12 Pro model will have the lion's share of it. There was a huge demand for it at the end of last year, which greatly exceeded the supply itself. It wasn't until the beginning of the year that the phones started appearing again in the sellers' offer. In any case, the income from services and sales of Macs did not do badly either, since it was in these two cases that Apple set new records for sales during one quarter.

Apple expects worse sales of Macs and iPads in the second half of the year

During yesterday's call of Apple executives with investors, Tim Cook revealed one unpleasantness. The executive director was asked what we can expect from Macs and iPads in the second half of this year. Of course, Cook did not want to get bogged down in details about the products as such, but he did mention that we can count on problems from suppliers, which will have a negative effect on the sales themselves. The question was connected to the global shortage of chips, which affects not only Apple, but also other technology companies.

Remember the introduction of the 24″ iMac:

In any case, Cook added that, from Apple's point of view, these problems will be connected only with supply, but not with demand. Nevertheless, the Cupertino giant intends to make every effort to satisfy the aforementioned demand from apple growers as much as possible. Apple's chief financial officer, Luca Maestri, subsequently added that the shortage of chips will cause a drop of 3 to 4 billion dollars in sales in the third quarter of 2021, which will concern the problems in the case of iPads and Macs.
