One of the best functions of the apple ecosystem is undoubtedly AirDrop, with which we can share (not only) photos or files with other apple users. But as it turns out, all that glitters is not gold. This function has suffered from a security bug since 2019, which has not yet been fixed. At the same time, the DigiTimes portal provided new information about the upcoming AR glasses from Apple. According to them, the product is delayed and we should not count on its introduction just like that.

AirDrop contains a security flaw that could allow an attacker to see personal information

Apple's AirDrop feature is one of the most popular gadgets in the entire Apple ecosystem. With its help, we can wirelessly share all kinds of files, photos and many others with other users who have an iPhone or Mac. At the same time, AirDrop works in three modes. This determines who can see all of you: Nobody, Contacts Only, and Everyone, with Contacts Only as the default. Currently, however, a team of researchers from the German Technical University of Darmstadt discovered a special security flaw.

AirDrop can reveal an individual's sensitive data to an attacker, namely their phone number and email address. The problem lies in the step when the iPhone verifies the surrounding device and finds out whether the given numbers/addresses are in their address book. In such a case, the leakage of the mentioned data may occur. According to experts from the mentioned university, Apple was informed about the error already in May 2019. Despite this, the problem still persists and has not been fixed, although since then we have seen the release of a significant amount of various updates. So now we can only hope that the Cupertino giant, prompted by the publication of this fact, will work on the repair as soon as possible.

Apple's smart glasses are delayed

The upcoming smart glasses from Apple, which should work with augmented reality, have been talked about for some time now. In addition, a number of verified sources agree that such a product should arrive relatively soon, i.e. next year. According to the latest information from DigiTimes, citing sources in the supply chain, this is unlikely to be the case. Their sources say something not very pleasant – the development is stuck in the testing phase, which will of course be signed on the release date.

The DigiTimes portal already claimed in January that Apple is about to enter the so-called P2 phase of testing and subsequent mass production will start in the first quarter of next year. At this stage, the weight of the product and its battery life should be worked on. But the latest publication claims otherwise – according to it, P2 testing has not even started yet. Currently, no one dares to guess when we could actually wait for the final. In any case, in January, the Bloomberg portal was heard, which had a clear opinion on the whole matter - we will have to wait a few more years for this piece.

Smart AR glasses from Apple should resemble classic sunglasses in terms of design. However, their main point of pride will be lenses with an integrated display that can be interacted with using specific gestures. The current prototype is said to resemble futuristic high-end sunglasses with thick frames that hide the battery and the relevant chips.
