Apple iPhones have long been considered the best of the best. This is mainly due to quality workmanship, great options, timeless performance and simple software. Of course, not all that glitters is gold, and we would also find a few flaws on Apple phones. Some people see the biggest flaws in the closedness of the entire iOS system and the absence of sideloading (the possibility of installing applications from unverified sources), while others would like to see certain changes in the hardware.

After all, this is precisely why Apple faced criticism for its display for a long time. It was only last year that we got the iPhone, which finally offered a 120Hz refresh rate. The sad thing is that only the more expensive Pro models offer this, while in the case of the competition we would find Androids with a 120Hz display even for a price of around 5 thousand crowns, and that for quite a few years. So it's no wonder that many people pick on Apple for this imperfection. For competing phones in the same price range, a higher refresh rate is simply a matter of course.

Once a criticism, now the best display

Specifically, the iPhone 12 (Pro) caught a significant amount of criticism. The flagship of 2020 did not have such an "essential" function. Even before the arrival of this generation, however, there were speculations that iPhones might finally arrive. Subsequently, however, everything collapsed due to the error rate of 120Hz displays from Apple. According to various leaks and speculations, the Cupertino giant failed to come up with sufficiently high-quality displays. On the contrary, his prototypes struggled with an extremely high error rate. Putting it all together, it's pretty clear that the apple company didn't take this for granted. But as it seems, she learned a lot from her mistakes. Today's iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are rated as phones with the best display. At least that's according to the independent DxOMark assessment.

Although Apple managed to rise from nothing to the first place, it still could not satisfy all parties. Here again, we encounter the already mentioned problem - only the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) is equipped with this particular display. The display is specifically labeled Super Retina XDR with ProMotion. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini models are simply unlucky and have to settle for a 60Hz screen. On the other hand, the question arises as to whether we even need a higher refresh rate in the case of mobile phones. According to the same DxOMark ranking, the basic iPhone 13 is the 6th best phone in terms of display, even though it lacks this gadget.

What does the future hold for us?

The question is also whether the Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion will remain exclusive to the Pro models, or whether we will see a change in the case of the iPhone 14. A number of Apple users would welcome a 120Hz display even in the case of basic models - especially when looking at the competition's offer. Do you think the higher refresh rate plays an important role, or is it an overrated feature of today's phones?
