WWDC23 is two weeks away, and Apple has just released the list of finalists for its design awards. There are 30 applications and games, which are divided into six categories, and among them you will also find one iron in the fire from Czech meadows and groves.

The Apple Design Awards recognize excellence in innovation, ingenuity and technical achievement in app and game design. The company published the finalists on its developer sites. Here we can find well-known titles, as well as the hits of the last year or, after all, more hidden pearls.

For example, Duolingo is represented here in two categories, in the category Inclusivity but we can find, for example, the Anne application helping deaf and blind iPhone users to communicate, category Interaction again offers a very successful motor game Automatoys, v Innovation you will find the Rise title taking care of your energy and sleep. There are also nominations for Visuals and graphics, where Diablo Immortal, Resident Evil Village and Endling will fight each other.

But we might be most interested in the category Social impact. It includes nominated titles such as Duolingo, Sago Mini First Words, Headspace, Hindsight, Endlig and also Beecarbonize, which comes from the domestic developer studio Charles Games, which already has titles such as Attentat 1942, Freedom 1945 or Train to Sachsenhausen in its portfolio.

For the fight against climate change

The main advantage of the game is that it is free and without In-App purchases, so anyone can play it without any investment. It was developed in cooperation with leading climate experts from the NGO People in Need as part of the 1Planet4All project funded by the European Union. So her message is quite serious. It is a strategy game that allows you to experience the phenomena that shape our daily lives. Your goal is to last as many seasons as possible.

So the opponent is climate change, which you will fight against with cutting-edge technology, politics, ecosystem protection, industrial modernization, etc. It is a comprehensive simulation that is designed based on real-world climate science, so it is not finger-licking. The game then proceeds by gradually unlocking up to 120 different unique cards and you deciding which section you currently prefer. And on top of that, there are crises and calamities that won't let you rest even for a moment. There's a huge amount of scenarios, so there's clear potential for replayability. Winners will be announced during WWDC23.
