According to the last server message The Information Tom Gruber, one of the original co-founders of the virtual assistant Siri, has retired. He was replaced by John Giannandrea, who spent eight years as the head of artificial intelligence development at Google. Gruber was thus the last founding member of Siri to leave Apple.

Tom Gruber, along with Dag Kittlaus and Adam Cheyer, founded Siri Inc, the company that created the original Siri app. It was released in 2010 and was an independent application that was available on the App Store. At the time, they probably had no idea how successful an application they had actually created. That same year, Apple bought Siri for $200 million and then integrated it into its iPhone 4s a year later. Back then, it was a truly unique recognition application that also served as a virtual assistant. In a few years, however, its fame waned, as Alexa or Google Assistant, for example, began to compete with it. However, Kittlaus left the company in 2011 and Chayer in 2012. But the two put their heads together again to create the artificial intelligence Viv, which was bought by Samsung. The last founding member of Siri stayed on at the company for a few more years as head of the advanced development group.

A spokesperson confirmed his departure from Apple, adding that Gruber now wants to focus his energies on photography and ocean conservation. Vipul Ved Prakash, who was Apple's head of research and whose team also worked on Siri projects, also left with him.
