Apple is developing a new feature for the Watch that focuses on users' health. The 9to5Mac server had the opportunity to look into the code of the upcoming iOS 14. In the code, among other things, they found information about the addition of blood oxygen level measurement detection in Apple Watch. This is a function that is already offered by some other manufacturers of wearables such as Fitbit or Garmin.

Special devices are used to measure the level of oxygen in the blood - Pulse oximeters. In recent years, however, SpO2 measurement has been offered by more and more manufacturers, especially in sports watches. At this point, it is not clear if Apple is planning this feature only for the next generation Apple Watch, or if it will also appear retroactively on older watches. The reason is that the Apple Watch 4 and Watch 5 should also be equipped with a sufficiently powerful heart rate sensor, which can also be used to measure the level of oxygen in the blood.

In addition, it is already known that Apple is developing a new notification that will alert users as soon as it detects low blood oxygen saturation. The ideal blood oxygen level in a healthy person is between 95 and 100 percent. Once the level falls below 80 percent, it means serious problems and respiratory system failure. Apple is also expected to improve ECG measurement in the near future, and it was also mentioned that sleep tracking is still in the works.
