With the arrival of iPadOS 15.4 and macOS 12.3 Monterey, Apple has finally made available the long-awaited feature called Universal Control, which deepens the connection between Apple computers and tablets. Thanks to Universal Control, you can use a Mac, i.e. one keyboard and mouse, to control not only the Mac itself, but also the iPad. And all this completely wirelessly. We can take this technology as another step to deepen the capabilities of the iPad.

Apple often presents its iPads as a full-fledged alternative to the Mac, but in reality this is definitely not the case. Universal Control is not at its best either. Although the function significantly expands the possibilities for users who work with both devices, on the other hand, it may not always be completely ideal.

Chaotic controls as enemy number one

In this regard, a lot of users mainly come across the controllability of the cursor within iPadOS, which is not at the level we could expect. Because of this, within Universal Control, moving from macOS to iPadOS can be a bit of a pain, as the system simply behaves completely differently and it is not the easiest to correct our actions correctly. Of course, it's a matter of habit and it's only a matter of time before every user gets used to something like this. However, the different controls are still an unpleasant obstacle. If the person in question does not know/cannot use gestures from the apple tablet system, then he has a slight problem.

As already mentioned in the paragraph above, in the final it is definitely not a striking problem. But it is necessary to focus on the rhetoric of the Cupertino giant and take into account its sources, from which it is clear that the improvement should have been here a long time ago. The iPadOS system is generally under a lot of criticism since the placement of the M1 (Apple Silicon) chip in the iPad Pro, which Apple surprised the vast majority of Apple users. They can now buy a professional-looking tablet, which, however, cannot fully utilize its performance and is also not quite ideal in terms of multitasking, which is its biggest problem.

After all, this is also why there are extensive debates on whether the iPad can really replace the Mac. The truth is, no, at least not yet. Of course, for some group of Apple users, a tablet as a primary work device may make much more sense than a laptop or desktop, but in this case we are talking about a relatively small group. So at the moment we can only hope for an improvement soon. However, according to currently available speculations and leaks, we will still have to wait for some Friday.
