The Apple Card, which the Cupertino company introduced last week, offers a package of very interesting functions and features. One of its biggest strengths, which Apple boasts about, is high security. As part of maximum security, it looks like Apple Card will be able to generate virtual payment card numbers, among other things.

In addition, when generating a virtual credit card number, Apple can automatically make this data available as part of autofill across the user's Apple devices. The physical Apple Card does not have its own number, as we are used to with payment cards from other companies and traditional banks. With virtual payments, the full card number is never shown, but only the last four numbers.

In these cases, Apple creates a virtual card number as well as a confirmation CVV code. This feature can be used for online purchases that will not be paid through Apple Pay. The generated number is semi-permanent - in practice, this means that the user can use it for as long as he wants. Of course, it is also possible to have a virtual number generated for each individual transaction. A virtual number is especially useful in cases where you need to enter a payment card number somewhere, but you do not trust the recipient too much. Card numbers are updated manually and do not cycle automatically. In addition, each purchase requires a confirmation code to be entered, which makes it even more difficult for the possibility of fraud with a stolen card.

If a customer uses their Apple Card to pay for subscriptions or recurring services, they may need to re-enter their details when renewing their card. But in some cases, merchants can get a new card number from Mastercard, and Apple Card holders will have no extra work. In case of renewal, however, the old number becomes completely invalid.

The server iDownloadBlog reports that there is a certain number on the magnetic strip of the Apple Card, but it is not clear what it is for. The number displayed in the application is different from the numerical data on the card. If the Apple Card is lost or stolen, the user can deactivate it within seconds in Settings on their iOS device.
