The new Apple Card isn't actually all that new. Some users on Twitter and the discussion forum Reddit pointed out that the company had a credit card as early as 1986. But it was different from the current titanium design.

The design of the Apple Card is completely in the spirit of current trends - metal, minimalism, elegance, simplicity. It has only the shape of the logo in the form of a bitten apple in common with the payment card that Apple issued thirty-two years ago - but back then it was still in rainbow colors.

Apple issued its payment cards during the eighties and nineties of the last century, but their exact number is unknown. Advertisements for a card called the Apple Business Credit Card, as well as for a regular consumer credit card from Apple, appeared in IT magazines at one time. The cards included $2500 in instant credit.

Those interested in issuing a card could submit a relevant application at one of the authorized Apple distributors. In connection with the consumer version of the card, Apple even stated that if the applicant qualifies, he can get a new Apple IIe on the same day. The company described this as the most affordable way to get a new type of computer.

The deal included another good deal - cardholders who wanted to get rid of one of Apple's older computer models, such as the Apple Lisa or Macintosh XL, could get a new Macinstosh Plus with Hard Disk 20 for their old machine, which in that case at the time it was selling for $1498.

A little later, Apple changed the design of its cards. The logo was placed more in the center, the top part of the card had the inscription "Apple Computer" on a white background, the bottom part was embossed with the card number along with the name of its owner on a black background. Credit cards from Apple are currently being sold on the auction server eBay, the price of the rarer ones is around 159 dollars.
