In 2020, we saw the introduction of the new operating system iOS 14, which finally brought the possibility of pinning widgets directly to the desktop after years. While something like this has been commonplace for competing Android phones for years, Apple users were unfortunately unlucky until then, which is why almost no one used widgets. They could only be attached to a special area where they didn't get as much attention.

Even if Apple came up with this gadget quite late, it's better than not getting it at all. In theory, however, there is still plenty of room for improvement. So let's now look together at what changes in widgets could be worth it, or what new widgets Apple could bring.

How to improve widgets in iOS

What Apple users call for most often is the arrival of so-called interactive widgets, which could significantly make their use and functioning within the entire operating system more pleasant. We currently have widgets available, but their problem is that they behave more or less statically and cannot function independently. We can best explain it with an example. So if we want to use it, it will open the appropriate application directly for us. And this is exactly what users would like to change. The so-called interactive widgets should work exactly the other way around - and above all independently, without opening specific programs. As already mentioned, this would significantly facilitate the use of the system and speed up the control itself.

In connection with interactive widgets, there have also been speculations as to whether we will see them with the arrival of iOS 16. As part of the expected version, widgets will arrive on the lock screen, which is why a discussion has opened among apple lovers whether we will finally see them. Unfortunately, we're out of luck for now - the widgets will work as they have been.

In addition, users would also like to welcome the arrival of several new widgets that could quickly inform about system information. In connection with this, there were opinions according to which it would not hurt to bring, for example, a widget informing about Wi-Fi connection, total network usage, IP address, router, security, used channel and others. After all, as we can know from macOS, for example. It could also inform about Bluetooth, AirDrop and others.

When will we see further changes?

If Apple is preparing to introduce some of the mentioned changes, then we will have to wait for their arrival some Friday. The expected operating system iOS 16 will soon be released, which unfortunately will not offer any of the possible novelties. So we have no choice but to wait until the arrival of iOS 17. It should be presented to the world on the occasion of the annual developer conference WWDC 2023, while its official release should then take place around September of the same year.
