We are only a few days away from the introduction of the new MacBook Pros with the M1X chip. The unveiling itself should take place next Monday, October 18, for which Apple has planned another virtual Apple Event. The expected apple laptop should offer a number of different changes, led by a new design and a significantly more powerful chip. But the question arises whether the current "Pročko" with the M1 chip will be replaced by this new product, or how Macs with an Intel processor will fare, which in the case of the 13" model currently represent the so-called high-end.

M1X knocks Intel out of the game

In the current situation, the most understandable solution appears to be that by introducing the 14″ MacBook Pro with the M1X chip, Apple will replace the aforementioned models with processors from Intel. At the same time, this means that the current 13″ MacBook Pro with the M1 chip will also be sold as usual alongside the expected new product. It also makes sense from a performance standpoint. According to the information known so far, the redesigned Mac should not only differ in design, but its main strength will be a dramatic increase in performance. Of course, M1X will take care of that, which will apparently offer a 10-core CPU (with 8 powerful and 2 economical cores), a 16/32-core GPU and up to 32GB of memory. On the other hand, the M1 offers sufficient performance for basic tasks, but simply not enough for more demanding programs.

This is what the 16″ MacBook Pro could look like (render):

In terms of performance, this will be a rocket move forward. It is also clear that Apple had to decide on something similar because of the 16″ MacBook Pro, which in the current situation offers great performance even with an Intel processor and is additionally complemented by a dedicated graphics card. In any case, another possibility remains that the performance in the case of the 14″ model will be slightly cut. However, this possibility (thankfully) seems unlikely, as multiple sources claim that the performances of both models will be practically identical. How it will be in the case of the 16″ model is unclear for now. The most common speculation is that this year's new M1X will completely replace the current model. However, it would make sense at the same time if the Cupertino giant sold these devices side by side, thanks to which Apple users could choose between Apple Silicon and Intel processors. For some, the possibility of virtualizing other operating systems (Windows) is still important, which is simply not possible on the Apple platform.

The future of MacBook Pro

As we mentioned above, the expected 14″ MacBook Pro could thus replace the current high-end 13″ models. Therefore, another question arises, what will be the future of the current 13" "Pročka" with the M1 chip. In theory, Apple could equip it with an M2 chip next year, which is predicted for the new generation of Air laptops. Also keep in mind that this is still just speculation and theory. How it will actually turn out will only be revealed after next Monday.
