Today, Apple has officially confirmed the news from earlier this year that it is planning to start selling modified versions of some Phones in Germany. This is a measure that arose as a result of legal disputes with Qualcomm. In this context, Apple stated that it has no other option in the case of Germany than to replace the chips from Intel with components from the Qualcomm workshop in the relevant models, so that these devices can continue to be sold in Germany. Qualcomm won the relevant lawsuit last December.

An Apple spokesman called Qualcomm's practices blackmail and accused it of "misusing patents to harass Apple." In order to sell the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8 and 8 Plus in Germany, the Cupertino giant is forced to replace Intel chips with Qualcomm processors, according to its own words. The sale of these models with Intel chips was previously prohibited by court order in Germany.

Qualcomm, which supplied Apple's chips, accused the firm of infringing a hardware patent related to a feature that helped save a phone's battery while sending and receiving a wireless signal. Apple tried unsuccessfully to defend against the allegations by accusing Qualcomm of hindering competition. Even before the verdict took effect last December, sales of the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8 and 8 Plus were banned in 15 retail stores in Germany.

A similar order took place in China as part of a lawsuit with Qualcomm, but Apple managed to circumvent the sales ban with the help of a software update, and the incriminated models can still be sold there.
