OS X Yosemite is the first operating system for Mac, the beta version of which was public, and in addition to the developers, more than a million interested people from the general public could participate in its testing. In Cupertino, they are obviously satisfied with the result of this procedure in fine-tuning the system. The participants of the testing process received an e-mail yesterday with thanks and a promise from Apple that all participants of the OS X Beta Program will continue to be offered test versions of future OS X updates.
Thank you for participating in the OS X Yosemite Beta Program. As you know, OS X Yosemite brings a sleek design, Continuity features for sharing your Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and big improvements to the apps you use every day. Plus, it's now free to download from the Mac App Store.
Please install the latest released version of OS X Yosemite. As members of the OS X Beta Program, we'll continue to offer you trial versions of OS X system updates on every Mac you've already installed the beta on. However, if you do not want to continue receiving the option to install beta versions of updates, please click here.
During the entire testing process, a total of 6 independent beta versions were provided to registered users. At first, regular users received fewer updates than developers, but at the end of beta testing, more were added, and the final beta was already identical to the third Golden Master version that registered developers received.
It is not yet clear whether Apple will include minor system updates in the public beta program, or whether the public will have another opportunity to help with development until WWDC 2015, when Apple will likely come out with the next generation of OS X.
OSX's annual update is pointless hell and I wonder when Apple will figure it out :(
Even today, some suppliers still do not provide driver or sw updates for Mavericks, and even Apple could not ensure sufficient continuity of its own applications.
A longer interval would be even worse - better frequent small changes than occasional big ones. See XP/Vista transition.
Now for Apple to sufficiently reflect the comments of beta testers. "Time Capsule Gate" doesn't show much of that…
Exactly! I still don't understand why they degraded their Airport devices with the release of the new version of AirportUtility, all the interesting settings disappeared…
WHICH settings specifically disappeared?
everything a bit more complex, more detailed settings. e.g. signal strength, options for multi-airport chaining.
I then adjust these settings so that I use modified airport utilities older versions
