Apple offers its own podcast app, which certainly doesn't reach the quality of, for example, its popular equivalent in the form of the Overcast app, but it's far from bad either. The popularity of this platform, both on the part of authors and users, is evidenced, for example, by the recently exceeded milestone, which was managed to be overcome during the month of March.

In March of this year, users exceeded the goal of 50 billion downloaded/streamed podcasts. This is a huge increase, especially compared to the previous year. Over the past twenty-four months, the content of Apple's podcast platform has grown severalfold, and with it, its user base has also grown tremendously. If we look at it in the language of numbers, we learn the following:

  • In 2014, roughly 7 billion podcasts were downloaded through the platform
  • In 2016, the number of total downloads increased to 10,5 billion
  • Last year it was 13,7, across Podcasts and iTunes
  • In March 2018, the already mentioned 50 billion

Apple launched its podcast platform in 2005 and has been steadily growing ever since. Currently, there should be more than half a million authors active on it, who should have created more than 18,5 million individual episodes. Authors come from over 155 countries and their podcasts are broadcast in over a hundred languages. The default podcast application saw major changes with the arrival of iOS 11, which are obviously effective and users are satisfied with them. Are you also a regular podcast listener?
