Representatives of Apple and Samsung have reportedly met to renew efforts to reach an agreement on patent disputes and claims. According to the latest information, the two tech giants would like to resolve their long-standing legal battles before they go back to court in a few months…

According to Korea Times negotiations are still ongoing at lower management levels, and neither Apple CEO Tim Cook nor Samsung boss Shin Jong-kyun had to intervene. Apple is reportedly demanding more than $30 for each Samsung device that infringes on a patent, while the South Korean company would prefer to reach a patent cross-licensing agreement that would give it access to Apple's broad portfolio of design and engineering patents.

If Apple and Samsung have indeed resumed negotiations, it could mean that both sides are tired of the endless legal battles. The last one culminated in a verdict in November that awarded Apple another $290 million as compensation for infringement of his patents. Samsung now has to pay Apple more than 900 million dollars.

However, Judge Lucy Koh has already advised both parties to try to settle out of court before the next trial, which is scheduled for March. Samsung thinks that Apple's current demand - ie $30 for each device - is too high, but the iPhone maker is said to be willing to back down on its demands.

Apple and Samsung have been trying to resolve their disputes for almost two years. Last year in April, Tim Cook said that the lawsuits annoy him and he prefers to be able to reach an agreement with Samsung. Similar to what he subsequently did with HTC, when Apple with the Taiwanese company entered into a ten-year patent licensing agreement. However, only time will tell whether such an agreement is also realistic with Samsung. However, the next major trial is scheduled for March.
