App Store and Google Play or the two biggest rivals, but which store is better? Hard to say. The App Store may boast high earnings, but Google Play has the upper hand in terms of app downloads.

According to the latest company statistics Tower Sensor users spent a total of $34.4 billion on apps and mobile games in the first half of this year. Which is an increase of 27.8% compared to the first half of last year, when users spent a total of 26.9 billion dollars. On the App Store, customers spent 22.6 billion dollars in the last six months, while on Google Play "only" 11.8 billion dollars, which is half less. From a developer perspective, the most successful apps were Netflix, Tinder and Tencent Video. But Google Play can boast the number of app downloads, which were a whopping 36 billion, while the App Store can boast less than half. On the other hand, Apple's number of downloaded applications increased by 13.1% compared to last year. The interesting fact here remains that the App Store can earn more with a lower number of app downloads than Google Play, where the number of downloads is double.

The Sensor Tower report also covers download numbers and profits from mobile games. And it's the games that earn the most for both stores. In this respect as well, both profits improved considerably. Users spent a total of $26.6 billion on mobile games, and earnings rose 19.1% year-over-year. The App Store earned 16.3 billion dollars and thus improved by 15.1%, Google Play is also not bad and with 10.3 billion dollars earned, it improved by 26% compared to last year.

However, there are really striking differences in the number of downloads. Both stores improved again, but Google Play still leads with 15 billion downloads and improved by 10.3%. The App Store has only 4.5 billion downloads, but it has improved in percentage terms more than its rival, by 14.1%.
