At the end of last year, Apple completed the acquisition of the Shazam application, which is mainly used for song recognition. Even then it was quite clear that the purchase would affect Shazam's revenue, but it was too early for any more detailed analysis. This week, the Billboard website reported that Shazam's user base has grown significantly thanks to Apple, and Shazam as such has remained profitable over the course of last year.

Shazam's financial results, which were published this week, reveal that the number of users of the service grew from the original 400 million to 478 million last year. Profits are a little more problematic - after the acquisition by Apple, Shazam became a completely free application, in which you will not find a single advertisement, so its income fell from the original $44,8 million (2017 data) to $34,5 million. The number of employees also decreased, from 225 to 216.

Currently, Shazam is fully integrated with Apple's system. The company started implementations in this direction even before the acquisition of Shazam itself, in August, for example, a completely new ranking called "Shazam Discovery Top 50" appeared in Apple Music. Shazam is also connected to the Apple Music for Artists platform and works with iOS devices or the HomePod smart speaker. Apple made no secret at the time of the acquisition that it had grandiose plans for Shazam.

"Apple and Shazam are a natural fit, sharing a passion for music discovery and delivering great music experiences for our users." Apple said in a statement on the Shazam acquisition, adding that it has really great plans and is looking forward to integrating Shazam into its system.
