The MyFitnessPal app has been affected by a data breach affecting up to 150 million accounts

If you use (or have ever used) the MyFitnessPal app, you had a very unpleasant email waiting for you this morning. In it, the company's management informs its users that there has been a huge leak of personal information in recent days, which took place in February of this year. The leaked data concerns approximately 150 million users, with their personal data leaked, including emails, login details, etc.

According to the information contained in the e-mail, the company discovered the leak on March 25. In February, an unknown party allegedly accessed sensitive data from users without authorization. As part of this meeting, the names of individual accounts, the e-mail addresses linked to them and all stored passwords were leaked. This should have been encrypted using a function called bcrypt, but the company evaluated that this was an event that users should be aware of. Likewise, the company took the necessary steps to investigate the entire leak. However, it advises its users to do the following:

Change your MyFitnessPal password as soon as possible
As soon as possible, change the password for other services that you have connected to the same account
Be aware of unexpected activity on your other accounts, if you notice something similar, see point 2
Do not share personal information and login details with anyone
Do not open or click on suspicious attachments and links in emails

It is not yet clear how, for example, those who log into the application via Facebook should proceed. However, the above probably applies to them as well. So if you use the MyFitnessPal app, I recommend that you at least change your password. A packet of passwords that has been stolen from the servers can potentially be decrypted. So also be aware of unknown forms of activity on your other accounts that use the same email addresses as in the case of MyFitnessPal.
