A significant part of the opening keynote at WWDC was devoted to the HealthKit platform and the Health application, which in iOS 15 a Watch 8 has seen many fundamental changes, especially with regard to the collection and sharing of private health information. However, as is often the case with similar services and functions from Apple, we will not enjoy them very much here.

One of the more interesting innovations was a modified interface that allows users to securely and anonymously share health data with their attending physician or specialist. As part of the new extension, the same function also focused on immediate family members, whose health status can be monitored by their loved ones and, if necessary, adequately responded to in moments when any discrepancies appear in the data. However, these privileges do not have to concern only the family, but also caregivers or other close persons.

Apple places the new functions in the context of today's times, especially with regard to the ongoing pandemic and concern for the health of loved ones, whom many have not been able to visit in recent months. In addition to the information itself, the shared data also contains trends, so it is possible to put them into context and monitor their long-term development. This is mainly data such as information on the frequency and quality of sleep, (ir)regularity of the heart rhythm, detected falls to the ground or the frequency and quality of exercise.

HealthKit now offers a combination of iPhone and Apple Watch gait analysis with regard to the probability of falling, where, based on analytical data obtained from normal walking, the Health application can calculate how high the risk of a potential fall is for the user. During the calculation, a special algorithm works that considers variables such as stability, movement coordination, step length, etc.

All news then meets, and is in full compliance with, Apple's privacy policy. Owners and users who will be able to use the above do not have to worry that their very sensitive health information will become public. The Health application on iOS 15 is then supplemented by other elements, such as improved Mindfulness in the new watchOS 8. What exactly will be available here, and what will not, is not yet known.
