The name of the Halide application has been inflected quite often in recent months. It is characterized above all by the fact that even on the iPhone XR allows you to photograph animals and objects in portrait mode, while natively only people can be photographed this way. However, the developers from the Chroma Noir studio did not stop at Halide, and now it comes with the new application Spectre. It offers easy taking of pictures using long exposure.

About how to take long exposure photos on the iPhone, we wrote already a few months ago. In our tutorial, we used the ProCam 6 application, which offers a number of advanced functions. Specter does it differently and tries to simplify and improve the entire scanning process. While under normal circumstances only one image is created with a long exposure time, Specter takes hundreds of images in a few seconds thanks to the intelligent computational shutter.

Thanks to this, there is no need to use a tripod, which is otherwise a necessary piece of equipment when taking pictures with long exposure. You can hold the phone in your hand while taking photos, as the application uses image stabilization and a smart computer shutter to ensure high-quality photos and achieve the desired effect. This greatly simplifies the whole process. The exposure time can vary from 3 to 9 seconds.

In addition to the aforementioned, Specter also offers selected functions for post-production. With the help of the software, for example, crowds of people can be removed when photographing places with a higher number of tourists, or object blurring effects can be applied when capturing flowing water. There is also a night mode, where artificial intelligence evaluates the scene so that lines of lights (for example) passing cars are captured.

All pictures are saved in the gallery as Live Photos, where you get a preview in the form of a still photo and also an animation capturing the entire shooting process. Specter is for download in the App Store for CZK 49 and the application can be used on iPhone 6 and later with iOS 11 or a later version of the system. iOS 12 is required for scene detection, iPhone 8 or later for smart stabilization.
