Apple Music is a great service in many ways, but it still lacks a few useful features compared to Spotify. One of them is the absence of Handoff support, i.e. the ability to continue listening to songs exactly where you left off on another device. And it is precisely this ailment that the new PlayOff application solves.

PlayOff from a Toronto developer Martin Powlett is thus one of the first applications to use Apple's MusicKit. It is with the help of the combination of the aforementioned framework and Bluetooth that PlayOff is able to connect to the playback of a song from another device. It requires two applications – one for iPhone, the other for Mac.

Once you have PlayOff installed on both devices, you need to go through a simple pairing process. After that, you can easily continue playing the song you had playing on your Mac on your iPhone. Of course, you can also use the function to establish playback in the opposite direction, i.e. from iPhone to Mac. So it is actually similar to Handoff, after all, this is where the name of the application comes from.

In the future, Powlette is going to add support for the iPad, for automatic switching of audio output and for extended support for connecting the playback of entire playlists.

PlayOff is especially suitable for playing longer songs or audiobooks and is worth a try. macOS version is completely free to download, app for iPhone then it comes out to 49 CZK.
